Canada and Mexico Tariff scheduled for 3/4/2025

As you may have heard, on February 24, 2025, President Trump acknowledged that the additional 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods are on schedule to implement at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. That will be 9:01 p.m. Pacific Standard Time for us here on the West Coast.

After that time, most goods of Canadian and Mexican origin, as well as goods from other countries that have undergone substantial transformation in Canada and Mexico, will be assessed the additional 25% tariff. Earlier this month, US Customs provided a guidance document, CSMS# 63988467, which gives a summary of what to expect. Even though the dates in this document are for 2/4/2025, we expect the information in this document to be still accurate for 3/4/2025.

If you have a shipment crossing into the US in the next couple days, it must do so by the end of the day Friday, 2/28/2025, if we are to have any chance at avoiding the tariffs. Crossings on Monday will be TOO LATE to avoid the tariff for technical reasons.

Sanders Brokerage Services may need to receive payment for services prior to transmitting entries to US Customs. Another option is to participate in the ACH Debit program to allow US Customs to withdraw duty monies directly out of your account. Your bank will need to be a US bank or a US branch of a foreign bank. In both cases, the bank must be a member of NACHA and allow US Customs to be an ACH party. Please contact us for details if you are interested in this program.

As always, please contact our office by phone at 360-332-1778, or by email at orders@sandersbrokerage.us, if you have any questions.

Thank you very much for your business.
